The parts that "Russia gives up quickly" is called the Security Zone (in their doctrine) which is populated by combat outposts whose role is to to stop patrols and identify enemy push axis and then bug out. Then there are positions in depth for blocking plus mobile counter-attack groups... The actual Main Defensive Positions were never reached by UA.

@JGalt-em4xu you sense this correctly. Think of defensive islands with security posts in front, side, back and mobile blocking/ counter-attack groups in reserve. Look at the maps of Kursk '43 and you'll see the same but on a grander scale

@kishanchali8752 "if your attack is going too well, it's probably a trap"... an old military maxim. I can imagine that it's difficult to see from the pointy end.
