Yeah that's pretty much spot on, you hit the nail on the head and that state capitalism mentality really took off in the 1960s when South Korea slipped into a dictatorship under Pak Chung Hee, the economy of South Korea quadrupled and rose exponentially under his administration but of course at great cost of human, privacy, and labor rights during his era It got so bad that he ended up being assassinated by the CIA (Korea called it's own domestic intelligence agency the CIA as well during that time period, they've since renamed to the National Intelligence Service)

That is a very scary thought, the concept of the company having that much power over a nation is deeply terrifying

I too would like to see an explanation on that They largely did get dissolved by the American occupying forces but they did somewhat come back in japan behind a loosely based system

Yeah the Chaebols of which Samsung is a part of, have a lot of sway over South Korean politics in fact when South Korea slipped into a dictatorship under Pak Chung Hee in the early 1960s Samsung exploded in growth, because the dictator and his administration were effectively helping prop up the company as well as the other Chaebols with full State support And it's why even to this day Samsung is still seen as somewhat controversial if you ever look at its history as a company, Pak Chung Hee as well Those among the right wing conservative of South Korean politics like to down play the failures of Pak Chung Hee and they emphasize the astounding economic growth that South Korea achieved in that period
