National debt never goes away, the successor state inherits any and all debts assumed by the previous nation Now in practical terms the creditors typically enter into negotiations asap as soon as the new nation is created so they can work out a deal regarding repayment, but the debt is still there

@pintiliecatalin well that means it's a creditor's dream , as the debt just accumulates ever higher and higher creditors are patient For example; It took untill 2002 for the United Kingdom to pay off all the loaned equipment and material from the US for the WW2 conflict They know they can wait

@pintiliecatalin that's where you are wrong the older the debt the easier it is for creditors to play hardball in negotiations I don't disagree that Russia is a terrible place for anyone to invest, but those are the individual and the private enterprises, attempting to collect and that debt while it exists it isn't the main piece of pie the creditors want No, they want the state given debt, or the loans from international community like the IMF something that will never disappear and plays a major role in the structuring of the economies of both the indebted nation and the issuer

@pintiliecatalin I didn't anything like that what I did say is that state national debt will never expire and because of that there will always be someone trying to collect The current situation of the state is irrelevant, the history of the state is irrelevant

Im all for the idea of using confiscated russian money to assist Ukraine but i ask what are the consequences? Because everything has unforseen consequences and it should be our job to properly ID those consequences to better adjust to them when they inevitably arrive Will it set a bad precedent and cause fear throughout the world that god forbid you get on the bad side of America and now you stay a poor nation until you learn to play Uncle Sam's rulebook I think even though there is strong moral justification for this action we need to think really carefully moving forward

Because they are still hostile to the the US government Don't get me wrong they love US culture and Americans, but they extremely dislike the US government and because of that they are treated as such Is it fair no, but is it based in the history of past actions yes The US government hasn't forgotten how Cuba used it's foreign intelligence operations to plant a spy in the highest levels of the US government and create a bigger mess than Snowden ever did And just like Cuba hasn't forgotten how Guantanamo was basically annexed in all but name by the Americans and to this day is basically considered by the Cubans as an imperial colony administered by the devil of Uncle Sam
