Sadly you cannot sue the NYPD or any police department for that matter, previous legislation blocks this process You can go watch the video of the YouTuber channel Cracked that discussed a 2011 case involving Joe Lozito who stopped a mass stabbing on the subway train despite the fact that two NYPD officers were present they looked on and did nothing while Lozito himself suffered stab wounds but managed to finally subdue the attacker Afterwards Lozito attempted to sue the NYPD but did not get very far

@byronsmith3152 that is incorrect. Yes, they are forced to put their lives on the line it's not SCOTUS thing, you can sue individual police officers no problem, what you can't do is sue an entire police department

@byronsmith3152 Again no you are incorrect, I don't know how many times I have to freaking explain it to you what I've been saying you can go after individual officers for not doing their job and being negligent while on duty your scouts ruling does nothing to protect officers from this And it ESPECIALLY is not applied when these same officers were negligent and not being able to prevent violence or violent criminal activity What you cannot do, and what your scotus ruling is entirely talking about is you cannot target the entirety of a law enforcement organization FOR THAT SAME NEGLIGENCE!!!! THAT is what prevents you from suing of the NYPD THAT is what 2011 Joe Lozito discovered

it's weird because doesn't the da work under the mayor the mayor is the boss of the district attorney for the city that he works in?! I mean if you are the da and you have the mayor of the city screaming at you over your horrible actions yeah that's a real red flag and I wouldn't expect you to have your job as that da for very long
