I agree I think the Shaolin monks are literally the only group to ever actually employ some focus on combat oriented prowess into their art The shaolin have been practicing Kung Fu daily for 2000 years so it makes sense that would show respect to someone who's doing something similar Mike Tyson was practicing everything related to boxing every day for years

I'd say the only people who could ever make kung fu practical in the world of any kind of combat fighting sport are those Shaolin monks that have been practicing Kung Fu daily for about 2000 years They are the one and only exception they get fighting experience from fighting each other constantly you'll never see Mike Tyson punch a 3 inch deep hole with just his two fingers into the bark of a tree

@alastor8091 they also bruise knuckles I don't care how powerful the punch Mike Tyson is he's not going to pierce the bark of a tree 3 inches deep like I said they are the one and only exception of actually bringing combat process to kung fu and it's why they are so exclusive to who joins them and the teachings they pass on

Sun Tzu said that! And I'd say he knows a little more about fighting than you do pal, because he invented it

@josequins9099 And yet tree bark is harder and more dense than both bone and human flesh The point was to emphasize just how much focus and sheer discipline this one exclusive enclave of Chinese martial arts are they are the only one that could ever compete in the real world of combat sports

@alastor8091 yes it does if you have bones that are more dense you can take a much more of a beating and you can put more weight behind your each of your strikes It's what the gentleman says in the video how masters of martial arts try to put as much force into each strike they do, those Chinese morons think they discovered the hidden gem when it's something so commonly known in all combat sports The point was just to emphasize that only Shaolin has the discipline and the physical mastery of any Kung Fu because they actually do practice a combat focused style of fighting they discarded techniques that don't work and only Master what does it's no different than Bruce Lee and his JKD

@judosailor610 I don't know what species of tree it was but it's semantics I could have picked any other amazing Shaolin feat ike doing unassisted full body weight finger push-ups or throwing a sewing needle with such force and precision it can pierce glass The point was never who would win in a fight, Mike Tyson or a Shaolin monk The point was that Shaolin Kung Fu and the monks are the only real game in town in the world of Chinese martial arts I'm wanting to emphasize contrast between the striking difference between moronic idiots of Chinese martial arts and the amazing combat focus, practicality and discipline of the original order of Shaolin kung fu and it's 2000 year continuous history of refinement The Shaolin themselves even have great respect towards Mike Tyson and we know this because there's a book about a Westerner who goes to a Shaolin temple to learn their fighting experience and when he arrives he sees a bunch of Shaolin monks huddled around the TV watching a Mike Tyson fight They were in awe of him and his warrior/fighter mindset

@judosailor610 then we are forever at an impass I can't seem to stress to you the significance of the training and the exclusivity of the Shaolin tradition and how it stands above all other Chinese originating martial arts to be the most pragmatic and combat focused to be useful in a MMA setting And since no Shaolin monk will make it to the MMA world we can't seem to get any definitive proof of how useful their tradition is
