I am so sick of misinformed folks talking about the Chinese Great Wall as a failure If you want some nuance let me tell you: The first construction of the Chinese Great Wall was done in 220 BC, the Mongolian invasion of China was in 1220 AD meaning for over 1000 years the wall did it's damn job And further let me add that when the Mongols invaded there were 2 kingdoms that were inheritors of the Great wall, the Jin and the Xi Xia The Jin maintained, expanded, manned, and patrolled their segments of the wall and repelled many attempts at breech by the Mongolians, the Kingdom of Xi Xia did not
