@technosaurus3805 seeing as how the Portuguese actually bought the land of Macau rather than got it through conquest I am also surprised that it was forced to give it up But again if you don't have a military to defend your claims you might of well not have them at all, and Portugal was in no way able to resist the full enormity of the CCP regime and it's military

You need a navy to defend your "claims" Portugal and its navy is lackluster

Heather Larson this ☝️ Claims mean nothing if you have no ability to enforce them

@CB0408 yes. Goa was such a problem at the time it almost single-handedly destroyed the United Nations as an international organisation.

@marpagapal3312 I already stated that exact fact. Portugal never used force to obtain Macau. But the Portuguese government did indeed face pressure from the CCP and the UN to return the land to the CCP. I honestly disagree with this and I do consider that Macau should have indeed stayed with Portugal My own sentiments aside however, the Portuguese government failed to negotiate with the Chinese government a similar lease agreement to Hong Kong and it's 99 year lease with the British, who also under the Margaret Thatcher administration likewise failed in negotiating with Deng Xiaoping of extending the 99 year Hong Kong lease. So yes Macau was forced to return to Chinese control under diplomatic pressure by both the UN decolonisation committee and the Chinese government, all this despite the fact that Portugal never used force to gain control over the land.

Portugal is a signer to the UN convention on the laws of the Sea it already recognizes the existence of international waters and of its already international determined boundaries I don't see how Portugal without a Navy of similar capabilities and the size of the US (who is not a signer to the UN convention on the laws of the sea btw) could try to claim ownership over international waters. We will indeed see how this works out for Portugal.

@nemesiszer0708 I'll help you. A classical liberal is a individual who rejects the ideas and policies of neoliberalism Some of the ideas promoted by neoliberalism include: 1)The freedom of movement of all people, across all borders of any nation without any checks or passes of any kind 2) the ability of an individual to self declare citizenry of any nation 3) the removal of government involvement in all economic policies 4) the restriction of government roles which forces it to operate only entirely to ensure the defense of the nation and maintain its own monopoly on violence

@nemesiszer0708 some of the AnCap ideas and policies are shared by neoliberalism particularly the economic policies. As a classical liberal I value the limits of government, but it must only operate within its defined borders. And yes there must be some industries that the government can be put in charge of and run in conjunction with private enterprises. I don't believe that the government needs to be the sole operator in said industry however.
