It's because the US was once a historical denier of rights to those of darker skin for a large portion of its history. Currently the US has made greatly improved strides to remedy this historic wrong but in the eyes of the descendents of the former enslaved ancestors it is not enough. And many of these descendents feel it will never be enough, they have a more absolutist view of the historical injustice. The eye for the eye mentality. "Unless you all collectively suffer 400 years as I, and by extension my community have, I will never forget or forgive" These holders of this mentality also view every single slight, even if justified by the rest of society, against one member of their community as an attempt to restart the process of these injustices across the entirety of their community. Hence the current problem.
