I won't disagree that there's not problems with the American style of the defense industry but if you live in a democracy you are footing the bill regardless of every time you pay your taxes And that footing the bill isn't specific to the defense industry it applies to literally everything the government gets involved in

  2. That's still not a good thing you shouldn't send all of your capacity to another country Don't get me wrong I am glad Denmark is helping out the ukrainians but at the same time you would be foolish to send all of what you have and are left with nothing

The US kept warning Europe: hey we are going to focus on Asia you better step up and start participating in defense because we have a much more dangerous adversary But Europe largely (Not Finland, Sweden, Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) put it's fingers in it's ears and didn't want to hear it, they knew that militaries are expensive and they wanted to rather spend that money on social programs and educating their citizens Not to mention that if they stopped funding those people would be angry for loosing those and no politician wanted to risk it, at least until it was "ok" to finally do so and that was the Ukraine conflict
