@squirrelattackspidy so why can't paralegals engage in lighter legal activities that don't involve actual trial work? You need to be a lawyer to give generalized input with the disclaimer that the person should seek a lawyer for any case work? Why do you need to be a lawyer to understand a specific set of documents and their use in a legal manner and advise as such? Why do you need to be a lawyer to help someone fill out common, necessary paperwork? Saying that paralegals shouldn't be able to service minor documentation and generalized advice on proper legal processes is the equivalent of saying Nurses shouldn't be able to render basic medical aid.

@squirrelattackspidy the bar exam is for stepping in front of the bar. It shouldn't cover whether a person can give generalized advice to people who can't afford advice, with the disclaimer "you need to really find an attorney, though."

I'm a paralegal who has had to fanangle the system to a point where I can actually do my work without being a lawyer, and that's just not right. Tbh we should just let people take the Bar exam without the bs. If you are a garbage lawyer you are respondible for your filings anyhow, so what's the difference?
