  1. He's not going to compromise the integrity of a mechanical system by exposing the weapon to extreme heat or cold. Sand/mud interferes with movement within the mechanical system. Heat and cold compromise the mechanical system itself.

  3.  @EtherFox  "Does not compromise a decent firearm." Incompressable fluids that expand when frozen need to be designed around in a precision firearm. It doesn't need to be a catastrophic failure for shit like failure to feed or to misalign the slide. Freezing any machine is bad for the machine for numerous reasons.
