Another fantastic video! Doing well financially as an adult is not a reason to leave behind the frugal lessons of a lower middle class childhood. We grew up on government benefits will the bare minimum but my mother bought everything on sale and still managed to invest a tiny amount every month and also invested on behalf of my grandmother. She always taught me that people don’t get rich by spending all their money or working hard; you get rich by saving, being savvy and working smarter, not harder! Now she owns our childhood apartment and has enough to live on very comfortably through retirement for the rest of her life.

The easiest way for me to manage my money is to see saving as a game. Once finding Bargains and saving money becomes fun it is self-reinforcing! And even better is if you can make the game so fun that your friends start joining in!

I always found the idea of using spreadsheets very time consuming and unnecessary. I just dump a bunch of money into my savings/investment accounts each month and keep my spending money in a separate account and try to spend as little as possible. I don’t have a full time job, I’m just self-employed with various income streams and and regardless of how much I make each month I stick to the same budget and live below my means.

I love all this advice - especially the 2 week rule. It is also very effective to think about how much things cost in terms of your hourly earning rate. I like celebrating by having meaningful experiences (travelling, skiing, quitting a job when I don’t like it hahaha)

This is SO relatable. I have not stayed in many jobs long because ultimately despite the fear, self-doubt and uncertainty that comes with self-employment, I cannot stand to unhappily work for someone else or a company and am way more happy and wealthier when I work for myself and am actually happy doing what I do and don’t feel trapped. I was also lucky to work and save when I was young to afford myself flexibility and autonomy in my 30s. Fear of instability and uncertainty keeps people trapped in jobs they hate.

I love this video! I wrote my masters thesis on financial socialisation in the family between ages 4-6 😃

Love this video. I really don’t understand why the media finds this concept so radical 😂 I refuse to work hours I’m not paid for 💁🏻♀️ whatcha gonna do? 😂😂

I love the honesty! Self-employment is definitely such a hassle as soon as you want to do something like get a mortgage or sponsor a partner for a visa. I got an employment contract and went back to work for 8 months just so I could gather the documents to sponsor my husband to move from the USA to the UK. Inflation in America right now is insane and the cost of health insurance is crazy! I don’t think people should be punished for being self-employed though I understand it’s way easy to launder money if you are getting paid cash!

So glad to hear you mentioned the importance of spending money on travel and health! Great video

Ok, you’ve convinced me to read the book! The part about not working for a pay check is SO TRUE. I work in high profile families and have seen time and again exactly what you describe regarding mental health of affluent children. It’s very important to think about why you want to be wealthy.

Massive respect for the guy who robbed drug dealers 😂

In the UK we get 5.1% interest on chase savings accounts 😅

This just autoplayed on my YouTube. I realised long ago (when I was 15 and did 2 weeks work experience in an office after which I vowed I would never work in an office again) that I hate being employed and have been avoiding having full time jobs for other people for years. I really enjoyed how you present all this info - you are so entertaining! My life mantra is similar; keep your standards high and your expectations low. (+Multiple income streams are the key!)

Incredible video! I completely relate. Thank you !!!!

Chase opened here only a few years ago and online as an online only bank so I suppose they can afford to be more competitive

I love your videos and sense of humour and I can’t imagine why anyone would want to insult you or your videos !!!

Four hours free time a week on average??? Horrific! Thanks for the info!

Me. I went abroad to au pair when I was 18. Then it became addictive. I moved to Vietnam aged 23 then spend 8 years working and travelling around the world. Do not regret any money spent on travel! You do not need a lot of money to get started. There are plenty of jobs abroad which will hire people without many qualifications or experience then you can save that money and use it to keep exploring

Super useful. Especially changing the iPhone settings! Thank you!

You and your videos are so amazing. Firstly, I’m very grateful to be privileged enough to be able to have a purpose beyond just survival and also to feel a solid sense of purpose; to help and support children educationally, emotionally and psychologically so they can grow into healthy, happy adults and reach their full potential despite any special needs or challenging backgrounds.

@VincentChan I totally agree with it - working hard is a farce! The key instead is to be as unique and irreplaceable as you can in your industry and not live miserably on auto-pilot but instead actually do what you enjoy well because you have the time and energy to do it well! Having said that, I don't believe everyone can be unique and irreplaceable but we can encourage healthier working cultures which benefit everyone (which some European countries have figured out). The working culture in the USA is so gross!

@VincentChan I never started; I have only ever worked the hours I am paid for as per my contracts and I have always included overtime rates in the contracts which I also charge if my employer/clients asks me to work overtime!

Never had a car. Happy with my legs and bike. Luckily don’t need a car in the UK! Such a waste of money
