Because policy wise they are similar if not agree on every issue. There are differences like different eras. Tho I've heard he was a Jewish atheist socialist growing up. But they are more culturally alike than dissimilar. And especially politically. The Bernie follower thing is lie. It's an exaggeration. His followers are anyone that supports his ideas. The same way they'd support Tulsi or Cortez. He has no bots And he's not responsible for any blowback people had to the rigging. Which they should have been rightfully angry of.

@Michael_Paul585 what you said about Hillary is a good point. Bernie supporters were pretty maligned. Honestly this seems to come from a weird sector of establishment feminist. The everyday working feminist all supported Bernie. Even before I did. The wanna be cosmopolitan type that write blogs or are wanna be intellectual comedians seem to be against him. Not all but it is weird how it's literally a sex/gender thing for some. Literally the only difference Mike gave was the sex of the candidates. Please tell me what his sex and his skin color had to do with his policies? Because you damn well know Bernie Sanders wouldn't have attack pro choice laws. Or even supplies of contraceptives.
