Considered in the context of the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, `ethnic cleansing' means rendering an area ethnically homogenous by using force or intimidation to remove persons of given groups from the area. `Ethnic cleansing' is contrary to international law.

@afcgeo882 I think you're conflating ethnic cleansing with genocide. They are similar in regards to their goal. But ethnic cleansing can involve mass explosion and intimidation.
