Heh smh. It's not either or. It's a democracy for the same reason it's a republic. Like the UK is a democratic monarchy because it's constitutional. The US is a republic because it doesn't have a king. It's a democracy and a republic because power lies in the people and their representatives

@Totes_ma_Goat if it has democracy aspects than it's a democracy. The aspects are what makes it a democracy. You're very confused on what these things are.

TommyDuster-ml2qp a republic is democratic... It's the republic that's democratic. Almost inherently, a republic is democratic. It's the other systems that aren't. The flaw is thinking that republic excludes democracy because you don't understand what these things mean. Some republics are undemocratic and it can be argued they aren't republics beyond not having a king. But a representative republic is democratic. So it's a democracy.

@MrPhotonjockey you're wrong. There's no such thing. Democracies, from the moment of invention, had representatives. That's a sort of made up, backwards term, to create a fake distinction. They also had systems of balance. Democracy doesn't negate laws. Or the judicial system. And it wouldn't call for them to be negated. The US is a democracy because people vote for representatives, and the power lies in people. That's what democracy is. Any system that uses that, is a democratic system. They are a democracy.

@Totes_ma_Goat I do vote for judges in my state. That aside, it's the democratically elected representatives that appoint them. Meaning the power of government is through the people. Meaning the government is democratic. Democracy is about the government. If the judge is selected by the government that is democratic, that's just an extension of the democratic government.

@Totes_ma_Goat you don't get it. That's a democracy. There's no such thing as a republic democratic aspects. That's a democratic republic. The democratic aspect makes a democracy. The modern definition of a republic is a democracy. You are playing semantics by trying to talk your way into the country being something isn't, by playing semantics. Essentially this is a discussion about the fine definitions which are semantics. All because you don't understand what a democracy is. You need to understand that you don't understand this. You have a confused idea of what democracy and Republic mean. One doesn't replace the other. One describes the other. A constitutional monarchy can be democratic. Any system where power lies with the people to elect the government is a democracy. A republic is a government without a king, and in modern times, usually where the people are elected Democratically, to be representatives.
