@eddastrohmayer251 dictator doesn't need an ideology. He can be an autocrat and a dictator, as autocracy can be a form of dictatorship. Dictatorships don't have to be autocracies though. That's why Putin gets called an autocrat.

I wonder at what point you would call someone seizing control a dictator.

@elbb6623 that's more ability to defend oneself and support. Russia likes to claim or act like it's somehow indicative of them. It's possible at first that they wanted good PR. But the reality is that Ukraine defends themselves. Israel is attacking a very dense area, of people who have virtually no defense. So a lot of innocent people get hurt. Ukraine is a much bigger country as well.

@PaulV. It doesn't. The context of how the Russian government controls the press, to people like nalvany dying after trumped up charges. On top of that, most countries can access RT. "Sergey Poletayev: Here’s Russia’s plan for Ukraine for this summer ANALYSIS The cost to the West of supporting Kiev continues to rise, meaning Moscow’s best option is to wait" There's a headline from them. Heh Its true, Russia can only hope. They have no chance of winning while the world supports Ukraine it seems.

Oh my so blatant. Aside from him not doing anything himself, he brought the sanctions on himself, and his country instead of enjoying peace.

@anon-le9fp more like only when people are dictators, who go against international laws. Being a dictator alone isn't enough to do much. It's not sudden either. There's usually a slide unless it's like a coup.

@elbibwen3019 but not head of government. The UK is a constitutional monarchy where the parliament is democratic.

@IvanRomanov-pc9rw the West isn't a country. It's a cardinal direction. Putin is bad. He oppressed his people. Interferes with the media. Kills candidates to consolidate power. And he doesn't allow a peaceful change of government. No matter what you think of a "western" country, the leader will change. If it's not a dictatorship. Putin is a criminal leading a country endlessly. Leading Russia into that Whatever crimes you think a leader in a democracy does, the crimes end with that leader. And a new era starts with the next.
