@TheFlagUnit the pretense? No I don't see the pretense in democracy. Whatever your vague religion terms mean. Democracy is not an empty slogan. And only someone with no understanding of it would think so. The Taiwanese don't seem to think so

@TheFlagUnit Dictatorships haven't either. But they have increased misery. And have nothing to do with the issue. Latin America has usually fought very hard for its democracies. And the circumstances of its dysfunctions don't come from democracy. It usually comes from attempts to subvert it. Nor is that conducive because you're saying it's okay to oppress people. You can get all the same results without oppressing people. You can have a law abiding society while not oppressing people and having a dictatorship.

@TheFlagUnit also there's no abject poverty(or not just). It's more developed than most countries in Asia, especially southeast Asia. So you kinda have a wonky idea of Latin America, and Asia. They're more equivalent. There's just like three countries in east Asia that are different and two of them are democracies.
