@bobsink624 and you seem to lack reading comprehension. The spirit of something is not the thing. And the further context was that they were mostly talking about east Germany(if I remember correctly). and that those conversations were with a country that collapsed anyway. In other words, he's admitting that no one ever said that.

@moritzrossbroich they do have their own defense pact as you've guessed, only Russia and it's puppet states bother with it. Why would a strong state join something so clearly designed for Russian supremacy.

@yam2050 they call it a managed democracy. Managed as in they control it. it's theater, weak opposition that they can eliminate at any time. they control the media and the votes anyway.
