@candicemcandrews2110 religion isn't trying to do anything. It's not a conscious thing. Different people have different beliefs. I don't know what Shinto says about abortion. I think the issue was settled in the U.S by the supreme court. But this almost right wing idea that the government can't tell you what to do is obviously false. The government can dictate all sorts of things. society can regulate procedures done. But we can't act like teaching kids ones culture or belief is inherently bad. We could take that idea that we indoctrinate kids with everything we do, and that would literally make rightwing points true because suddenly we're indoctrinating kids into trying to not be racist.

@jeremiahalguire8231 I didn't say it was. I said you could say teaching children anything about society would be indoctrination if teaching anything about oneself and culture would be. Because that does include such things. So don't act as if I said it was. Literally someone might see teaching kids morality the same as teaching them not to be shit. That was the framework in which abolitionist and people like MLK taught anti racism, even before with the priest that objected to native American slavery.
