But Doesn't that mean that the importer pays the tariff? If so, its the consumer that pays it and the gov becomes a middleman. If the importer pays the tariff the profits to the overseas manufacturing stays the same. There is a misinformation tome going around that tariffs are paid by the overseas manuf. This is wrong and should be cleared up. Tariffs are paid by the importer and eventually effectively by the consumer. What happens when tariffs are placed on items that America no longer makes in amounts to support demand? We sent a lot of hard manuf overseas. Gotta be careful.
