Trade schools teach a useful skill. Carpenters, plumbers, electricians, home construction, home repairs, auto repairs, window replacement, heavy equipment operators, welders, and asphalt pavers are all great trades. Find a company that will let you apprentice and ask that they train you. Home HVAC installers and repair people are also needed. The last plumber that came to my home was teaching a recent high school graduate and had plans to one day sell the business to him when the older gentleman retired. The young man was getting trained on the job and learned valuable plumbing, business and customer service skills, So many home builders complain that there are not enough experienced young people to hire. Maybe they need to let their experienced workers train the next generation at a reduced rate. Teach them to do a quality job by letting your best workers train them.

Schools need to teach a life skills class starting in grade school and getting more specific as you get into high school.
Opening a bank account, interest paid on deposits, interest expense paid on loans like credit cards, car loans, house mortgages. By the time someone is a senior in high school they should be taught about how to prepare a resume, interview skills, the importance of benefits like vacation pay, health insurance, a 401K, pensions and social security. They should be taught how to prepare a household budget with expenses like phone, credit cards, rent or mortgage, car payments or car repairs, home repair costs, home and car insurance costs, health insurance and the importance of saving and investing for the future. Too many children grow up and no one to educate them about these things.
