  1. India missed an opportunity for a big growth in manufacturing by not closing the deal with Tesla. Tesla and all the related suppliers would have boosted manufacturing in India.

  2.  @soorajjp1847  That is only partially correct -- Tesla starts out selling the cars they already have and starts building sales/repair and collisions centers as well a Super Charger stations. They need to build a support staff and engineering talent before they start building vehicles. Tesla said if the demand was there they would build a manufacturing plant. One step at a time. Billions of dollars of investment lost by not giving Tesla a path to locate in India. India could have gave Tesla an opportunity to build up their demand for a few years before requiring them to then build a manufacturing plant. Every where Tesla builds a manufacturing plant the economy and employment grows. Missed opportunity.

  3.  @soorajjp1847  Import taxes are too high for electric vehicles. They are meant to encourage Indian companies and others to manufacture their own Electric Vehicles but it is having the effect of slowing the transition to electric vehicles. Keep the import tax on petrol and diesel vehicles and lower the tax on EVs to encourage the transition to EVs. There is a climate crisis and India is getting hotter and experiencing more extreme weather events like flooding. We must get off fossil fuels and encourage the shift to solar energy and electric vehicles as soon as possible. Tesla would have come in an built a local car designed for the Indian market. This would have led to billions of investment dollars coming into India boosting employment with high paying jobs and raising the standard of living.

  4. India needs to do much more to clean its environment and provide basic health services to all its people. The air is too polluted to breathe. Ground water is polluted. Trash is in rivers and streams. Lots of work to do. The coronavirus is just one more environmental problem. There needs to be a bigger sense of urgency in India to tackle their environmental problems. Ramp up wind and solar power, stop building coal power plants, mandate all vehicles to go electric in 5 years. Provide basic medical services to everyone. Teach young people to take pride in their homes, neighborhoods and communities.
