@oaples8790 In rwanda theres some guilt from hutus over what happened to the tutsi in mainly in african pan nationalist circles. This guilt was a great opening for western oikophobia. Resulting in them effectivly saying how there almost as bad as the former colonizers. Sound familiar?

@P4to D0l4n America really has done less to hold back Latin America than you think Not to say America did nothing but that only started in the mid 19th century Latin America had a hundred years after independence and made similar progress before and after the start of the cold War. Hell the us has done done Very similar stuff to mainland western Europe rig a Italian election so they don't have a independent sorry different forign policy infiltrate the French communist party and poison one of there leaders the only real difference is the us stopped that after the cold war and europe grew much faster than Latin America during that time. I could see a argument for Columbia by supporting a Panamanian rebellion to get the Canal or even Argentina due to effectively entrenching peronism with there insistence on the status quo. But brazil or peru I don't see any difference with what the us did there and what they did to mainland Western Europe.

@nikomann88 massive oversimplification america was supporting South American dictatorships prior to the cuban revolution or jfks assassination. 2 america did see Argentina as a equal which was a problem equal in the same way France and Italy saw each other. 3 brazil is pretty similar to Mexico yeah uh mexico is about half way through industrialization I don't see a Brazilian equivalent to Mastretta Cars as a random example. Speaking of mexico great example of how some of the stuff the us treated different countries Honduras el Salvador or Guatemala got effectively ruined by the us meanwhile Mexico or chilie have had economic booms and improvement economically. Lastly your point about communism I think its mainly due to most of Latin America is in early stage industrialization or proto industrialization which was the society marx made communism for early stage industrialization or a "ideal model for reaching it". For unindustrial societies Seeing as most of the west progressed past early stages of it and now to the point of service jobs being more common than good producing ones well theres the problem.

@P4to D0l4n the us more so with a few exceptions mainly perpetuates the pre existing order or in other words status quo its insistence on "status quo" which isn't the best for the region. My main point was you can't blame everything on the us it did similar stuff in Italy west Germany and to a lesser extent France Latin America was poorer than the north or western Europe prior to MASS American influence. Main exceptions being Honduras el Salvador and Guatemala are pretty screwed up due to the war on drugs so yeah that's America's fault.

@nikomann88 well brazil never had the same Spanish monopolistic system and there in a very similar situation And well somthing else the us did see Argentina as a equal prior to the interwar era but your point has been made. Yeah the timing was pretty bad with a few exceptions like Chile but with Europe the interest america had there lead to some of the same stuff just with much economic aid on the side election interference in Italy or subverting the French communist party from the inside no assassinations but still political influence. Lastly america did not treat all Latin American countries the same way el Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala especially and Columbia to a lesser extent have been treated much worse than Argentina or Brazil as examples.
