Some called themselves Illyrians some called themselves Hellenes others armenians many mainly in the cities called themselves romanitas byzantium was not a hemoginous state but fairly pluralistic

@sachemofboston3649 not really it would be more of a armenian,greek union with quite a few south slavic populations like serbs or bulgarians. Oh and albanians as well.

@mr.peanutbuttersfavepisode pff even the finish continued to call themselves the 3rd Rome for a short while after the Russian Civil War.

@philip2009 I'm aware The Armenians though had ALOT of influence in the byzantine court a couple of Armenian kings,etc. Most minority had that to some extent but the Armenians had it the most and also was a part of byzantine burocracy.
