  53. The German Army utilized motorcycle units during World War II for several key reasons: Mobility - Motorcycles provided the German forces with greater mobility and maneuverability compared to marching infantry or horse-drawn transport. This allowed them to rapidly deploy troops and supplies across the battlefield. Reconnaissance - Motorcycle scouts and reconnaissance units could quickly survey terrain and gather intelligence ahead of the main forces. Their speed and agility made them valuable for scouting missions. Communication - Motorcycle messengers could rapidly transmit orders and information between dispersed military units, improving the overall coordination of German forces. Logistics - Motorcycle-based supply columns could efficiently resupply front-line troops with ammunition, fuel, and other critical resources, maintaining the momentum of German offensives. Versatility - Motorcycle troops could operate effectively in a wide range of terrain and environments, from urban streets to narrow forest paths, enhancing the tactical flexibility of the German military. The combination of speed, maneuverability, and logistics support made motorcycle units an important asset for the German Army's blitzkrieg tactics and mobile warfare doctrines employed during the early years of the conflict. Most motorcycles in the German Army were BMW R75 Horizontally opposed cylinders that had two major uses, the first was dispatch riders carrying messages from commanders to headquarters, the other was with a sidecar with a soldier with a heavy machine gun used as a fast small unit against the enemy, as the German Army moved to different countries they acquired a wide array of British, French, and Belgian machines, painted them Wehrmacht Gray for recognition. One of the role’s was either as solo couriers or as scouts, as teams of tank hunters, or in divisions of rifle troops, sometime they would be in the thick of a battle, they rode exposed without the armour plating of the Panzer vehicles there were many casualties. To Improve Their German Motorcycles, BMW sent their designers to the Front Lines, they altered the air filter making it higher, the Russian captured many BMW motorcycles and were very impressed with their design, even Josef Stalin ordered to factories to make Copies of the BMW R75 as Combat Vehicles for the Red Army. The U.S. Army captured lots of the BMW’s and put an order in for copies of the BMW, they ordered 1,000 copies of the BMW however it dropped the order in favour of the less complicated and less expensive overhead valve Harley-Davidson WLA, of which some 88,000 were ultimately built, the BMW motorcycle was useful addition to the German Battle plan although the American Jeep did all the things the BMW with a sidecar but could also carry troops and many heavy machine guns.
