Not as good as people make out. Firstly, private health insurance is a gross rip off and automatically increases every year for no good reason other than greed. Increasing numbers have to drop out of private insurance every year. The only way people can drop the cost is by reducing what you are covered for, which eventually makes it useless to have. Secondly, people with "full cover" can still end up getting huge out of pocket bills. I have seen some ridiculous stuff like 10 dollars for a band aid. Thirdly, I heard a story of a girl that required a certain drug to live, which was ridiculously expensive. She obviously could not afford it. They basically said she pays or she dies. They really only care about the money. Yes, if you have something small like the flu, sore back, injured foot, you will get treatment for free. However as soon as you need "specialist" treatment, Ambulance, hospital etc you will start paying and the bills will grow very fast. Like in the U.S. medicine is treated like a business now, not a community necessity. The focus is on making profits, not helping people. Even the Government would rather spend 2 billion dollars fixing a stadium than spending it on hospitals, which are in desperate needs of funds. They will make more revenue from the stadium. Yes, it may be better than the U.S. in some small ways, but it is still ruined by greed and selfish agendas. Many people die who shouldn't. Many are not getting the care they need. It is just like the gun myth, what you are being told is not necessarily true. I know the truth because I had to watch my Mother go through hell in the hospital system.
