Clever? Wouldn't salting the road make it easier for all cars? I think they just had a better car regardless. Hiding it is not necessarily cheating. Sometimes you just don't want competitors copying what you have done. I have seen things in V8 Supercars that were hidden for that reason. Not against any rules or cheating, just a development that they didn't want the competitors to know about.
