I am Australian and I have unfortunately had to deal with our lousy health care system. These people who think it is so great are reading from the brochure and haven't been through it. It is about profit and not about helping people. My eldest Brother had emphysema and they removed him from life support and let him die because they needed beds. My Father died of an aneurism that the hospital failed to pick up because they couldn't be bothered looking. He was already in hospital recovering from a bought of pneumonia. He told them multiple times there was something wrong, but they just sent him home. He died that evening. My Mother went through hell in the health system. It was clear that because she was a certain age, they didn't care. They were not going to get enough money out of her to make it worth their time. Now under certain circumstances you will not pay for treatment, that is true. But it is basic treatment. As soon as you get specialists, hospitals and drugs involved, you pay. That can quickly become 10's of thousands of dollars. Even if you have full health care. I was sent to hospital after a check up because the Doctor thought there was something odd with my heart rhythm. They wouldn't even let me drive my car, so they called an Ambulance. I was fine there was nothing wrong. That two kilometre trip cost me $550. That bit about no Australians going bankrupt is a lie. I have heard of people that can't pay medical bills and have had to sell everything. Sometimes there are fundraisers to help people. I don't know where those figures come from but they are BS. I heard of one girl a few years back that needed an expensive drug she couldn't afford. She was given the choice of pay or die. Literally. I don't know what happened to her. Hopefully people helped, because neither the health care system or Government give a toss.
