@observingsystem No need to believe any experts, there are open papers to read! E.g. Anthropics "Alignment faking in large language models". Educate yourselves!

@fernandomiranda9736 Thank you, i have read it. I don't want to say anything against your religion and of course you're free to believe in it, but should be aware other people are exactly as free to believe in other religions, or in none of them. It therefore seemed a bit bold to me to take the book of your religion as a consultation in a general matter.

@chadlaflamme7942 i agree for the next few years... however, in the long run, i think there's a huge risk of AI itself endangering humanity even without becoming self aware, e.g. with paper clip scenarios...

Like the goal of living on earth is fighting gravity

Hope it listens to you

Why calling people naive that just have a different opinion?
1
The same way we decided that for chimps?
1
Ahh of course, if you have the bible, why look at reality

@webcityguy how unfortunately true 😢

Let's hope they don't want to unmerge with you

Until the software rules him

Which arguments?

You feel safe on a bridge with zero proof it collapses, or proof it won't?

Your life seems a bit sheltered as well... how many mass murderers have you talked to?
1
Tell that to a robot
1
That's probably what the Inca though upon arrival of the first Europeans.

Indeed! But also: No power, no human civilization. Good luck fighting over that with an increasingly smart AI.

So far no "soul" has been found in a century of brain research... but if people keep believing in it, that may prevent us from accepting the real risk we're facing here.
1
Or maybe you have seen all these people through your "evil" glasses.
1
Of course people can be sadistic, but usually only in a very limited amount, towards a few others they have grown to really hate. Even if you listen to mass murderers in prison, they still like to see themselves as a force for good in their twisted way. Also Hitler was not looking for how to best torture jews, but for the most efficient way to get rid of them, told by the efficiency of the cruel apparatus he built. Hannah Arendt has called that phenomenon "banality of evil".

Are you assuming machines can't repair/build machines?
1
Most of these possibilities will however involve harm to humans
1
You mean before or after we're wiped out by AI?
1
Maybe start grounding your opinions with some few facts
1
I don't think they tried to maximize suffering of ALL humans.
