Once again you missed a lot and flubbed a bit. You kind of glossed over the rather diverse 8bit era in Japan. Then you totally missed the MSX stuff. Finally, it is rather wrong to imply that Japanese writing was the reason for anyone not making it in the 8bit market. At that time, most software was kana only and often half width katakana only. Also the Japan market had dedicated word processor systems far longer and more ubiquitously than anywhere else.
