Exactly...by giving students a loan of 5k to help pay for books/food/rent just raises the cost of school by 5k so students can't afford books/food/rent.

I'm 30, and every one of my friends who came from lower/middle class families who majored in a science or engineering field have paid off all their loans with time to spare, except for those morons who went to nursing school or med school....but they don't seem to care so they don't put money into student loan debt.

As millennial who had 100k+ in debt, i managed to pay it off within 5 years of graduating grad school (where interest was held because I was making 17k a year). My husband and all of the people i graduated with also had roughly the same amount of debt and we all paid it off within 7 years of graduation. It isn't complicated, you just can't also get a new car, eat out every night and buy a house at the same time, we live in a nice place, have very nice jobs (started at 60k in LA now up to 100kish in another major metro area). It is possible as long as you aren't stupid about it.
