  1. There are different polio strains. Two have been eradicated. Also the vaccine has changed a lot in 50 years.

  2. I think these events have been going on forever, we just hear about them now because they’re a great smoke screen for things going on behind the scenes and filler for the 24/7 news cycle.

  3. Most of the time polio was diagnosed because there was an outbreak. The one off cases wouldn’t be polio those would be GB. We also would have seen a similar GB rate decrease with the polio rate, Aresenic poisoning rates etc but as far as I know the GB rate is about the same as it always has been (obviously some years it goes up).

  4. The populations with continued polio are not the parts of the world where they don’t vax continuously. It’s the parts of the world that they don’t believe in vaccination. Also Styx’s view of what a lab looks like - even an under developed nations bio lab is hilarious. No the janitor didn’t sell test bats on the side and no there isn’t just an open jar of polio sitting on a lab bench.

  5. Except most nations were able to eradicate polio with that vaccine. It’s also endemic in parts of the world that don’t believe in vaccines.

  6. I remember thinking my in-laws were crazy for saying the entire country was going to be shut down soon due to a pandemic that would kill everyone in 2019. They heard it from NPR and they and their friend circles were terrified.
