Although that plays a factor because you should be attracted to your wife/husband. You should also want to be best friends with that person. Marrying your best friend means that you will have disagreements without breaking out into extreme arguments where violence could potentially occur. You should be willing to lay down your life for that person. That's true love, and that's what creates the environment for a successful long-term relationship.
