I'm gonna preface my argument by saying, this dude should've been found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. This argument is purely academic in nature and I in no way agree with the gay panic defense. But, have you ever considered what you would do if you were at a bar one night. You're getting really hammered, like black out wasted. Then a gay dude takes complete advantage of that situation by dressing like a woman and was able to trick you into performing sexual with him. How would you react? Would you have a mental breakdown, possibly and that leads you to commit heinous acts of violence? We can all sit here and say that we would never do something like that. And even if nonviolence was your reaction, not everyone is you. Someone might not be able to mentally handle something like that and that could lead them to do something grotesque and horrible.
