  2. But that’s how it was originally designed. They count on a certain percentage dying before they can collect. That’s why it’s called SS Insurance. That’s exactly part of how how insurance works. But it still helps millions of people.

  3. We could also pass universal healthcare, which would also help old people immensely, as well as young people, children, and middle-age people! We could also pass laws governing nursing homes so that they can’t kick the elderly out in the street after the owners have sucked out their last cent.

Well, Utah, I believe it was, did a study where they allowed homeless people to live in unrented apartments (I don’t remember for how long), gave them social services like rehab/drug treatment, helped them fill out government papers and helped them find jobs. The result? It actually cost the state LESS money to do that than leave them on the streets, clean up the streets after them, lose tourist dollars, etc., etc., etc. Interesting concept, yes? I guess states would much rather lose money while bitching about the problem than actually doing something about it. Then again, there are groups building tiny houses for homeless people, but I haven’t heard much about how that’s turning out, except that in Las Vegas the city went in and bulldozed them. Go figure. Yup, there are LOTS of things that could be done to help people, but some politicians prefer to tell people to “pull themselves up by their bootstraps”. But, of course, most of those politicians got where they are by having rich daddies, so they wouldn’t have any idea of what a bootstrap really is, and that they can break with overuse. Funny, you said “this game is easy”, but it really COULD be.
