  4. We were also robbed very shortly after we moved into our home, and, I agree with this lady: it is traumatizing. Fortunately, neither my husband nor myself was at home, as it was the middle of the afternoon. The hardest part for me was that my mother had died very recently, and I had just been sent all her jewelry, including a very special string of pearls, and some of it was also from her mother and her aunt. All gone. It still stings after 20 years. They did catch the guy, but, for whatever reason he had his court date cancelled, so that came to nothing. The only good thing about it is, as our house is done in a Mexican style, we went ahead and had decorative, but very functional iron bars put on all the windows (the robber had come in through a rear window), so now I feel very safe inside my “fortress” as I can sleep, or go to the store with the windows open, knowing nobody can come through those iron bars.
