It’s very sad. And it’s inhumane. Unaffordable medical bills are the #1 cause of homelessness in the U.S. Many people lose their homes because they get sucked dry by medical bills. And, of course, homelessness is also costly for the country. One of the big problems is the massive numbers of pharmaceutical ads on TV and in magazines, which are VERY expensive, and why the costs of medical care is so high. In some countries with a socialized healthcare system they don’t allow TV ads for pharmaceuticals, which saves massive amounts of money to help cover actual healthcare. But we’re supposed to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” when minimum wages haven’t gone up in over a decade while the cost of living skyrockets. I’ve always felt that people shouldn’t be left to die from a fixable medical problem just because you’re poor. This is the problem with capitalism. We need healthcare for all in the U.S., and NOW.

@lsdlrf Yeah, a friend of mine did that, and within two months she died of cancer.

@AuskaDezjArdamaath That is the absolute truth. The word ‘hysteria” comes from the Latin word for uterus, and early doctors thought the uterus simply wandered around inside the female body and that caused so many of the problems women had, especially the emotional ones. Sounds crazy to us now.

@laras678 Yes, there’s even a book about it, called “Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men” by Caroline Criada Pérez. And it’s not only about the medical field, but all fields where theories and products are made using data gathered from (usually White) men.
