I’m not an archaeologist, but I’ve spent some time in the Yucatán, and, besides all the ancient cities Tere, if you just look at the people Tere, you can immediately tell that the Spaniards did not wipe them all out. There are MANY direct descendants there. Just like the Native Americans p, although there ight be more Maya, and possibly Aztecs, in Mexico. And in one state in Central Mexico, Tlaxcala, may of the people still speak Nahuatl, the Aztec language from childhood. It’s such a fascinating and beautiful country.

  2. @runupcomadres No, the Mexican government, in particular the Cultural Department, has ownership rights to all archaeological artifacts. It’s their history and culture, and they’re very proud of it.

  3.  @LindyandDevin  But you still have to come back to your home country, and the airport security would probably find what you are carrying across, and you just might find yourself in some huge international trouble. Not worth it, and definitely not respectful to the country you are stealing from.

  4. LIDAR is an absolute godsend to archaeologists. There are going to be to be probably hundreds in just Mexico and Guatemala and Belize, not to mention Egypt and other countries with rich ancient civilizations. I think this one of the most exciting technologies ever for archaeologists and history in general. Amazing future coming. If I were a young, college-age person now, this is what I would want to be doing.

  5.  @Torniization One of the big problems, too, is that many states that say that they’ll allow abortions in the cases of probable harm to the woman don’t specifically delineate exactly what kinds of harm or danger they’ll allow to be admissible for abortions, so the doctors are too afraid to perform them because of potential huge fines or imprisonment if the states decide that their patient’s particular possible health problems won’t be legal to treat with abortion.
