And, strangely enough, on the rare occasions when the news reports that maternal mortality rates are going up (highest in red states, of course) they never clarify that that means women ARE dying because of these laws. And do you notice that they NEVER publish the names of those women or their photos? (Except for the one poor, Latina woman in Texas who died, because they found a way to blame HER for her own death.) I think it’s because a couple of years ago, in Ireland (an almost completely Catholic country) a woman died because she wasn’t allowed to have a D&C (technically called an abortion in medical terminology in hospitals) to remove a dead fetus and she went into septic shock. Millions of people marched in the streets carrying signs with her name and photo, and, guess what? Ireland suddenly made abortion legal, and that’s what they’re afraid will happen here, and we’re a much bigger country with a lot more women. If you want to look it up, her name was Savita Haleppanever(I hope I spelled that right). We just need one or two (or many, if we can get them) names and photos of women who have died in the U.S. because of these hideous laws. Just imagine the uproar it will cause!

  3. The “great legal mind” that Alito referenced when he shot down Roe v. Wade was even older than that! I think he was in either the 16th or 17th Centuries, and he used to condemn “witches” to be burned at the stake. Great guy to emulate, huh?

  4. Please, Arizona, put this particular issue up for the voters on a special ballot like they’ve done in several other states. Then you’ll see what the PEOPLE of your state want, not just what the right-wing legislators of the state want.

  7.  @VicJ-Kiwi9617 I hope NZ will start allowing asylum seekers from the U.S. in case he wins again (horrible thought!). I’m too old to qualify for citizenship, but NZ would be my first choice if the unthinkable happens.
