  1. If Bernie had been President for eight years, the people of this country would be so much better off, especially if Congress had worked with him instead of against him. Rare integrity is right. He’s one who actually wants, and has always wanted, to help The People of the country and not just the wealthy donors, as so many of the others (especially on one side) only seem to care about.

Every elected Congressperson should be required to work their entire first year for their state’s minimum wage with NO outside help or money from donors, and a one-week paid vacation and health insurance at the end of their first year. Afterward, they can get a $1.00 raise per hour per year, plus an extra week of vacation until they reach four years. Then no extra vacations. That would certainly lower the costs of elections because many fewer people would want to run. But they would certainly learn how many of “the rest” of us live, and maybe start making laws to help US workers.

  3. ⁠ @OperaFusionInc I agree 100%. We need to expand ind increase the socialist programs that we do have, and bring in some new ones. It wouldn’t mean that we’re a “Socialist” country, just that we have more, and better programs that will help the working class, as in, the majority of the country. But that’s exactly why people (the rich and the politicians who profit by supporting them) love to denigrate the word “socialism”, as if it means poor people will just get to be lazy and lie around doing nothing while the government just gives them everything they need or want. People want to work, and they have an inherent need to work, preferably at meaningful jobs, but work is pretty much a fundamental need in the human psyche. People, generally, are wired to always come up with new ideas to make life better, and they very much understand that it takes work to make that happen, and to make society function. But those rich people and politicians don’t want anything whatsoever to help the people if it means giving up one thin dime of their own wealth, no matter how much it hurts the working people (and no matter how much wealth that they might continue to make which they and their children and grandchildren will ever even be able to spend), so they make up specious claims about “socialism”, equating it to Communism, and denigrating people like Bernie Sanders who really do understand what The People need, and openly speak about it.

  4.  @Redsand481  That’s exactly why I said “with NO outside help or money from donors”. Believe me, I know where they get their money, and basic congressional pay may be a lot more than I make, but it certainly isn’t “top tier” income. And I said minimum wage in their state, not less than McDonald’s pay.
