Sometimes a woman does if not all of the fetus’ tissue is expelled from the woman’s body during a miscarriage. In fact that accounts for quite a few abortions. If the tissue isn’t removed, it rots inside her and causes sepsis, which is bodywide infection. That is exactly what caused the deaths of both of the women reported about a couple of days ago. But, the procedure to remove that tissue is listed as “abortion” on her medical record, which is illegal. Yes, as some people like to say, there are “exceptions” for the “life of the mother” situations, BUT, the wording of those laws are so vague and confusing that the doctors are afraid that they will be thrown in jail or lose their medical license if they treat the woman, so they have to wait until the hospital’s team of lawyers decides that she can get the care she needs. And, again, that’s what happened to the first woman reported to have died: she lay on the hospital bed for 20 HOURS, while her infection rates were skyrocketing, and her systems were shutting down until the lawyers finally said it was OK to do the procedure on her, which they did, but it was much too late for her. And she died. It was completely unnecessary. How would you feel about that if she were your sister or your daughter? What if she had been planning her pregnancy, picked out a name and fixed up the nursery? That is happening to a lot of women (see Kate Cox), who are lucky enough to get the procedure approved before they died. But, sometimes the wait is long enough that, even if her life is saved, her organs are so damaged from the infection that she can never become pregnant again. And these women can get arrested if they take the abortion pill which, technically, causes a miscarriage, even if she safely passed all the tissue. And that’s just one example. It helps to learn how women’s bodies work, how pregnancy works and how reproductive healthcare works.
