@rorus9530 And we’re still fighting for them in the U.S. Unfortunately, we’re losing them almost daily. Just two weeks ago, our Congress, once again, voted against putting the Equal Rights Amendment (which was also written and presented 100 years ago) into our Constitution, so women in the U.S. still do NOT have equal rights.

@stephen1340c Yes, it’s always the women who suffer first and the most. The experience of women in any region is always a bellwether for what direction the country is going. Just look at what’s going on in the U.S. right now (although, of course, it’s not nearly, yet, as bad as in these Eastern countries). Women’s rights are being taken away almost daily, and, once again (about two weeks ago), the Equal Rights Amendment was given a NO vote in Congress. The ONLY legal right women in the U.S. have in the Constitution is the right to vote (which was put there one hundred years ago). So this doesn’t make the immediate future for women in the U.S. look very promising.

Actually, Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to actively seek the office of President in the U.S., in the 1800s, and she chose Frederick Douglas to be her running mate. Of course, she was forced out of the race pretty quickly. America wasn’t ready then, but it IS ready now!
