@rypatmackrock The diaspora you mentioned from Philadelphia to Appalachia must have included my family’s Irish (or Scots-Irish) side, as, although I haven’t learned much about where that side came from, other than Connecticut or, likely Philadelphia, they all (and apparently, ALL) moved to West Virginia, even before West Virginia seceded from Virginia, except for one I found who settled in Virginia, probably earlier, as he was “supposedly” (I still have to do a lot more research on that to believe it) the first cousin of George Washington, and grew up “next door” to him, was a Colonel in the Revolutionary War, and owned slaves (oh great, right? /sarcasm). Only with my parent’s and my generations, have we moved to other parts of the country.

@Rhuarc1 Yup. Originally from West Virginia, as is ALL my family, and proudly Irish, although I’m pretty sure we were Scottish and Irish, because even though my last name, Gilmore, is Irish, it is derived from the Scottish name (and I know I’m going to mess up the spelling here) McGillemoihre. My side of the family is all dark-haired (except for my great-aunt and myself who are/were redheaded), brown-eyed and non-Catholic. My father told me many of his ancestors were Blue-eyed Catholics. My mother’s side is mostly English, with some German. My DNA came back with some Norwegian, which surprised me, along with Iberian (Spanish or Portuguese), which was a huge surprise.
