  1. I think the problem is that so many Americans treat celebrities like politicians, or elect them as politicians. I’m thinking Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Donald Trump. Many Americans are so enraptured by celebrity that they sincerely think they would make great rulers. Why? I wouldn’t hire a celebrity to be my tax adviser if he or she didn’t know anything about taxes, so what makes people think they’d be good governors or Presidents? In my opinion, none of those three made good governors or Presidents (actually, I think they were all disastrous).

  2.  @RayKosby I agree with that, but the Magats loved him for it, as well as everything else he did. He told them how rich he was, and how great he is at running his businesses (not mentioning that he filed bankruptcies on more than one casino (how dioes a casino owner lose money?? The big profits are built into the system!). Then there were trump steaks, and I believe he was charged with fraud for that one, and with trump University I think I read that he had to also refund all the student’s tuition. But they still loved him and believed he was a great businessman, not recognizing that not only was he a conman and a loser as a businessman. I’m old enough to remember when Ross Perot was running for President (he was a wealthy and very successful businessman), and I heard so many people say “he’ll run this country like it’s a business (which in many ways it is, especially now), and they thought that was a very bad idea. Then, a number of years later, many switched and they suddenly thought, when it came to trump it was a great idea. I think they were all dazzled by his “celebrity”, which has become a real moral failing in this country (I’m thinking of Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with trump. It didn’t worked out well for The People when they were elected as governors and as Presidents. Even being a great actor generally doesn’t mean a good ability to be in those positions.
