@absolutelynotacommie That's not the point. The point is that the Russian war of territorial acquisition against Ukraine is hardly a defensive operation, nor are the weapons being employed.

The soviets had plenty of tactical medium bombers and fighter-bombers to support offensive operations. SU-7B, SU-17/20/22, SU-24, plus older fighters still useful in the fighter-bomber and ground support roles.

@hlynkacg9529 That's because the U.S. has to be able to go elsewhere to fight with their NATO and other allies. Once upon a time the U.S. originally thought it was safe to isolate itself behind the world's two largest oceans, but being dragged into 2 world wars forced it to go elsewhere to fight. It then realized that waiting for invasion forces to pull up to its coastline was not a viable defense strategy. If the U.S. continues to help defend allies from the acquisitional states of the world it must remain expeditionary.
