The burned wreckage of this airplane was still on the taxiway a few years later when I was flying out of Riyadh. We had to taxi by it quite a few times, so we asked ops why this wreck had not been removed, as seeing it must have been quite unnerving for airline passengers. We were told that the wreckage was left in place as testament to the will of Allah. We took that as indicative of Saudi cultural differences and didn't think much more about. Then one day we had a fire in the electrical equipment rack during climb out. Luckily we were able to isolate the circuit and extinguish the fire, but it seemed a bit too coincidental for comfort.
