  1. Blame the legal system of our litigious society and the rush to salacious judgement of our hyperactive news media and social media. Liability for things that happen is what incentivizes authorities charged with responsibility to try to control everything -- it's a conditioned defense mechanism.

  2. Most people agree that Adolf Hitler did evil. But most also seem to think Hitler got up in the morning with the goal of doing evil. Of course he didn't, he thought he was taking heroic action to make the world a better place. So this must be with all despots and tyrants.
