  1. SA is relative. If the general's ass is in the bush his SA will be as low as that of the infantryman in that bush who can see only a small part of the overall picture. Situational awareness is built by synthesizing information from multiple sources with different points of view. If an unmanned vehicle increases the ability of a mechanized unit to see and place fire on the enemy, it does double duty by increasing both SA and firepower. It may even soak up some enemy counterfire. If it can carry more than foot mobile troops, as well as provide observation and fire support, maybe it would be a good thing to have in support. It's not the answer to all situations, but could be a force multiplier for many. Given the declining birth rates and soft cultures of post industrial societies, it seems a natural desire to have machines to do more heavy lifting to augment ever more valuable soldiers.
