That, and that location might be what works for him. (Even if that location sounds fishy to me.)

Sweet sounds like his blood glucose wasn’t just elevated (3-400 or more on a meter) but had been there for long enough to get ketoacidosis going. That’s really bad. (Based on what I recall from the class). Thankfully, I’ve never endured that, even if I have endured my share of (blood sugar) crashes.

@Tloc103 used to carry mine in a soap shower box. When traveling last May, I made a special pouch in the medical bag for the supplies.

Flashback from late seventies, when I was shot. Why - because I was not what the bullies want me to be.

@danstedak true. But - playing to the person you answered, here - why stop with driving commercially? Why not just forbid everything where others could get hurt? I could see that rubbish happening…

Amen. Hypoglycemia can cause trouble that way. Speaking from experience, here. It’s especially bad when you don’t realize how far gone you are. It doesn’t always cause you to become sweaty or shaky. That happens mostly when it drops fast. Unless it’s really bad, though, you could probably pass a field sobriety test.

Low blood sugar means you give glucose. That causes the sweaty, shaky, agitated feeling. High means you give insulin. Now if the person’s too far gone to take oral sugar, you use glucagon - which is awful for nausea, and expensive, too. Much bigger needle, also, and needs to be intramuscular, rather than subcutaneous like with insulin.
