Depends on how much less, too. Most people would manage with cutting their intake by perhaps a third. MOST people. There’s a small percentage of the population that would need to go much further to achieve meaningful results, e.g. if you have hypothyroidism that’s not being “aggressively” treated, but rather begrudgingly - as well as other health issues that can cause overeating.
Say you need to eat under a thousand calories a day more or less permanently, unless you camp out in the gym/swimming pool. (You can eat a little more then.)
Oh, and then you do well to sleep more than 3 hours a day, too. You’ll want to secure stool softeners in bulk. (Yes, even if you eat plenty of veggies.) Your metabolism follows your food intake down, down, down, until your body temperature is 95.8, your resting heart rate gets dangerously low, your blood pressure starts falling, such that you can get off some blood pressure meds…. All of these symptoms are those of Clinical Anorexia.
Note that I’ve done the above in the past, so it’s not hypothetical. It’s simply what is required in some cases. It’s not much of a life, and the side effects of a drastic weight loss regime - needed by some people to achieve substantial weight loss - aren’t much better than those of being severely overweight.
If you cannot “rejoin the human race” due to things you were born with - then is it worth it???

@duncan.o-vic yes, Authoritarianism tends to move wealth up the Dominance Hierarchy, so as to concentrate all wealth, power, and decision-making in the hands of a few - or a single person, ultimately, in an actual Dictatorship.
The chief issue I have with the Big Dog named Cap…ism is that it concentrates economic power in the hands of a few; and in doing so, it furthers Greed, as well as many other Very Bad Things.
The Big Dog named Cap…ism is known for three chief traits:
1) it has a very strong Dominance Drive, as in it must be in complete control, and permits no opposition or dissent.
2) it has a very strong Prey Drive, as it wants to prey upon everything - and everyone - it possibly can. More, it is Ruthless in its predation.
3) it has a very strong Territorial Drive - as in it sees everything as its territory, and will expand that territory without relent until it is forcefully checked. More, it is tricky in its expansion.
As a case in point, one might examine the behaviors of, say, United Healthcare, or Nestle, or say, Raytheon - all Big Dogs in the Corporate Hellscape.
If you’re going to have that particular Dog around, then you must be a Knowledgeable, Committed, and Experienced keeper, so that it doesn’t turn on you and Devour you. (This last state of affairs is commonly named Fascism. One might speak of a Capitalism to Fascism pipeline…?)
Of course, some people prefer Cats, too - and no such system (e.g. Socialism) should be excluded from consideration. I am not entirely sure I am among their number, but I DO know I am willing to give the Cat mentioned in earlier posts a fair try.
